dear chinatown mapping project
Through the generous support of AARP and the 2020 AARP Community Challenge Grant program, we created a digital storytelling and advocacy tool for Chinatown’s longtime community members (past and present residents and community leaders). The interactive, online platform is intended to strengthen community identity and increase civic engagement, particularly among older adults. Advocates can use the tool to help inform urban planning policies and advocate for the inclusion of community priorities in all redevelopment efforts in Chinatown. The anticipated launch of the website is early January 2021.
“This important and timely project will strengthen our capacity to amplify the stories and experiences of D.C. Chinatown’s community,” said Ted Gong, Executive Director of the 1882 Foundation. “We are excited to embark on this work with the support of AARP and their commitment to the neighborhood’s senior residents.”
